News 1st’s Sonali Wanigabaduge wins prestigious South Asia Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity 2024

Sonali Wanigabaduge of News 1st won the prestigious South Asia Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity 2024. The award, which celebrates media's role in promoting gender equality, was presented at a star-studded event in Mumbai on October 9th.

Sonali was honored for her work on The People’s Platform, where she tackled critical gender issues, from challenging stereotypes and promoting women’s participation in politics to advocating for rights and safer workplaces.

A lawyer by profession, Sonali also serves as the Company Secretary of the Capital Maharaja Group and has earned numerous accolades for her contributions to media and gender equality.

Freelance journalist Aanya Wipulasena from Sri Lanka also won an award for her impactful stories on women from the periphery.

The Laadli Awards, organized by Population First and supported by UNFPA, recognized winners from across South Asia, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, and the Maldives.
