As an organisation that has always prioritised gender equity, and enabled diversity and inclusion, CMG held a day of celebrations to commemorate International Women’s Day 2023.
Our online event for Women’s Day was attended by over 500 CMG team members from across the Group, with women throughout the conglomerate’s subsidiaries and varying levels of management sharing their experiences, challenges and memories of creating positive change whilst overcoming hurdles.
Subsequently, another event was held at the Group Head Office Auditorium where, together with Eva, the flagship brand of ICL Brands (Private) Ltd., a subsidiary company of CMG, over 150 associates from group businesses listened to Ms. Kamini Senaratne, Superintendent, and Director - Planning of the Sri Lanka Police, who spoke extensively about transcending stereotypical gender roles, and the power and resilience of the woman.
Also addressing the gathering, Ms. Devika Kodituwakku, President of the Government Midwives’ Association, outlined the far-reaching developments in the women’s rights movement, and the importance of creating a life of equality, equity and dignity for women.
CMG’s partner in mental health and wellness, Sri Lanka Sumithrayo, presented a poignant, thought-provoking presentation on understanding the types of violence perpetrated against women, and how kinder systems can be created to prevent them.
Shanthi Bhagirathan, Group Director of CMG, delivered a moving closing address for the event, highlighting the importance of women coming forward with their issues and helping them overcome the challenges they face so they can achieve their true potential.
Commenting on the event, Sashi Rajamahendran, Chairman of CMG said, “In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2023, I would personally like to thank each and every woman at CMG and our partner network for their outstanding contribution towards our business. I am greatly disturbed to hear about the horrors endured by women in the world out there and pledge to do my part to implement systems that prevent and deal with such issues in a manner that is kind and supportive to women”.
